Hi CoCo,

RCHS operates the "Animal Safehouse Program" that we began in 1997. ASP provides temporary housing for the pets of Domestic Violence victims.
Here's a link to the website:    http://rchumanesociety.org/programs/safehouse.asp

Also....attached is a story about ASP that I wrote for San Diego Pets Magazine.

Shelters for abuse victims can accept the victims and children...but not their pets. So the human victims often stay rather than allowing their pets to become the victims.
ASP works with agencies that provide services for domestic violence victims.

The pets come to RCHS then go to foster care. After 30 days we work with the agency to reevaluate the situation. If the human victim is able to reclaim their pet, that's what happens. If they can't take back their pet, they surrender it to RCHS so we can find it a forever home.

I'm copying Amy Heflin on this. Amy is the Director of ASP. Also Jim Silveira....President of RCHS.

Let us know if / how we can help!

Hugs & smooches to you too!
