There is an obvious trend these days, of companies supplying android smart phones to their employees. Having seen the benefit of speed and connectivity they are getting the newest gadgets into the hands of workers often unfamiliar with the mobile world. I am going to list some simple steps to becoming familiar with an android smart phone and guiding the new user as to which apps are safe for work.
The first thing you want to do (assuming you have not set up the phone), is make sure you have a G mail account exclusively for work. If you add your personal account(or any email accounts), your employer has a right to see everything that happens on the phone they own. In addition, if you’re a public employee, all the happenings and emails are public record. In addition adding a personal e-mail becomes an ethical issue unless it’s expressly allowed by your employer.
Assuming you now have a “work-only” G mail account, enter that into your Android smart phone. The phone will walk you through a basic setup. Make sure if it asks where you want to store your Contacts, you choose to store them in G Mail and not in the phone. For example it will say store in Verizon or G mail, choose G mail.
Once you have it all set up, you may want the contacts from your old work phone moved over the new smart phone. If so, CLICK THIS LINK for a walk through.
Now We Really Get Started
First go to the Google Play Store and or click the following link to download Google Googles. Once you add Google Goggles, you can use that to just scan the QR Codes below with your smart phone, that will make the install process faster.
From here, I’ll list the apps that are very useful and totally safe for work use. Scan the QR Code for a fast install. Be sure to watch the video next to the QR codes, for a better understanding of what the app can be used for.
