Well our hardworking government has bitched it's way right into a shutdown...OH BOY! You thought it was screwed up before...just wait for this! Here is a bullet-point list of what will be open and working, and what will NOT be.
LOCALLY- partial government shutdowns which could impact approx. 26,000 civilian employees Department of Defense. National monuments and parks closed.
*Travel...applications for visas and passports will continue
*Federal Courts will operate normally for about 10 business days, and if the shutdown still continues, employees will be furloughed who are considered non-essential.
*Mail will NOT be affected
*Soc. Security and Medicare will keep coming, but there could be delays in processing new Disability applications. Unemployment benefits will still be paid out.
*National parks, museum and zoos will be closed.
*Health...new patients will not be accepted into clinical research programs but current patients will continue to receive care.
*FDA will handle high-risk recalls etc...but routine safety inspections will be suspended. But meat inspections will continue.
*W.I.C. the special supplemental program for women, children and infants could shut down.
*School lunches will still be served
*I.R.S. you still have to pay and file taxes, but audits will be suspended!!!!
*Loans - first-time and low income borrowers could face delays. No underwriting of government-backed loans will be done during shutdown.
*Military and Homeland Security - most employees are expected to stay on the job. (Secret Service, Border Patrol, Coast guard etc. MILITARY MEMBERS WILL CONTINUE TO RECEIVE THEIR PAY...BUT PAY COULD BE DELAYED. About 1/2 of the Defense Dept could be furloughed.
