Slash Takes Credit for Broadcasting's 7 Second Delay. Or So He Thinks!

Posted April 20th, 2014 @ 8:16pm

In the latest digital issue of FuseTV’s Backatcha, Slash takes credit forbroadcasting’s seven-second delay.

Slash says that he and Guns N’ Roses were “accepting an award for something and we were just really, really drunk. That was the beginning of the sevensecond rule…for swearing. The seven-second delay? We started it. Every other word was 'F this’ and 'F that.’”

The delay is a feature that lets radio and TV producers “dump” up to seven seconds of audio in the event that an expletive is said or an FCC rule is violated on-air.

The actual practice of using a delay started in 1952.
